The Health and Nutrition Bite for May 5, 2010 reported on the validity of physicians testing for celiac disease in those with abdominal symptoms. We received several comments suggesting that keeping a food diary might also help with diagnosing celiac disease:
Q: Why not begin with a self-evaluation? Cut out all food containing gluten for 3-7 days. Do you feel any different the gluten-free days (besides frustrated and deprived)? . . . If a person sees a marked difference in how he or she feels with no gluten in the diet then this is something concrete to tell the doctor.
A: I think this is a great idea because we know that celiac disease is under diagnosed. Keeping a Food Diary
