Study after study has shown how great eating whole grains can be and another one in The Journal of the American Dietetic Association supports this. It’s a large study of over 14,000 participants that shows the more whole grains the less risk of heart failure. Eggs and high fat dairy were associated with an increased risk, however. Interestingly, other food groups including fruits & vegetables, fish, red meat and nuts didn’t seem to have much effect on risk.
Keep in mind that this is a heart failure study and not one of atherosclerosis / heart attack. We do know that the other whole grains help there as well but so do fruit & veg, fish and nuts.
